The RIC Program: A Christian Alternative to 12 Steps
PAM SHEPPARD has more than 3 decades of professional secular experience, 25 of those years in the field of substance abuse. The founder and the author of a bible based Christ-centered option, the RIC Program---Recovery in Christ--- RIC is based upon 7 Keys as derived from the words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 16:16-19. In this text, Jesus declared that Peter's revelation that Jesus is the Christ earned for Peter the keys to the kingdom. Keys to the kingdom have the capacity to unlock the knowledge, wisdom and power of the kingdom. The kingdom is the realm of the spirit.
KEYS TO THE KINGDOM are available to ANYONE who believes on Peter's affirmation to Jesus: "YOU ARE THE MESSIAH, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD."
Therefore, In our counselors' language of recovery, Jesus is not merely one of the higher powers. No. Jesus Christ of Nazareth must be your HIGHEST, ONLY POWER. Jesus must be the one to whom YOUR knees bow and YOUR tongue confesses that He is YOUR Lord!
Anointing is the supernatural power of Christ. Jesus declared that He is anointed to break yokes and bring recovery to those who are in bondage by setting free those who have been bruised. (Luke 4:18) Since Jesus said that the kingdom of God is within YOUR SPIRIT, an initial foundational premise of recovery in Christ is that through His anointing, the addict in recovery has access to total recovery and restoration.
Instead of 12 Steps, RIC is based on 7 keys: Repentance, Resurrection, Rebirth, Revelation, Resistance, Renewal, and Restoration. Like 12 STEPS, we work the 7 keys with affirmations, principles and practices.
